Getting Here By Road

Many visitors underestimate the time and distance to arrive at our wonderful region. Here are some helpful estimates (from, without stopping):

  • Melbourne CBD (via GOR) 5.5 hours
  • Melbourne CBD (via Geelong, Colac) 3.5 hours
  • Tullamarine 5.5 hours
  • Avalon 4.5 hours
  • Anglesea 3.4 hours
  • Apollo Bay 2 hours
  • Colac 1.5 hours

Visitors will enjoy our scenic roads much more if driving can be done during daylight hours.

If you are arriving here via the Great Ocean Road from Apollo Bay, we suggest you allow a minimum of 2 hours from Apollo Bay to Port Campbell, but note that this does not allow any time for sightseeing.

Allow an additional 2 to 3 hours if you are visiting other attractions on the way, such as the Otway Fly, Cape Otway Lighthouse, 12 Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge, etc.

If you are planning a sunset visit to the 12 Apostles or other scenic attractions, we request that you notify reception so that we can make arrangements for a late check-in, as reception may close after sunset.

The quickest and shortest way here is to take the Princes Highway (A1) to Colac. Approximately 10kms west of Colac turn left at the C163 to Timboon and Simpson. When you reach Scotts Creek you will join the C164, and follow this to Port Campbell. Allow 3-3.5 hrs to reach Port Campbell this way.
